Help Our Drama Students Travel to Scotland!
The Walled Lake Central Drama Department under the direction of Elizabeth Rexroat has been selected by the American High School Theater Festival to travel to Edinburgh Scotland this summer to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The Fringe Festival is the world’s largest and most prestigious arts festival. Each August, Edinburgh, Scotland, becomes the most magical and exciting place on earth as performing artists from all over the world take part in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The whole city becomes a stage, and visitors can view performances everywhere from playgrounds to conference rooms, from city parks to churches. The Fringe Festival includes over 2,000 different performances of music, theatre, dance, and comedy during its three-week run. Walled Lake Central High School’s performance will be showcased at the AHSTF venue in Edinburgh during a week in August, 2015. Elizabeth Rexroat, Walled Lake Central High School Drama Director, said: “This means the kids have an opportunity to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the program, and that the theatre program here at Central is recognized for its quality and commitment to theatre education.” More than 2,200 high school theatre programs were nominated this year representing all 50 states and nearly every province of Canada. Walled Lake Central High School was one of 40 selected by the AHSTF Board of Advisors, made up of college theatre professionals, to represent the countries as part of the 2015 AHSTF program. The Board reviews all completed applications and identifies the top high schools based on their most recent bodies of work, community involvement, philosophies, and recommendations. Walled Lake Central High School drama students, their parents, and teachers will be heavily involved in fundraising activities to finance their two-week adventure to Scotland and England. Contributions and donations are welcome. Please help support our students on this great adventure!
